We have positions for one lab assistant and two student interns. We are located at Rice University in Houston, TX.
The lab assistant position is for students who have already graduated. Initial appointment is 12 month starting immediately. The appointment can be renewed pending satisfactory performance. Salary is ~ $26,000/year. The lab assistant will be in charge of media preparation and C. elegans culture, freezing worm stocks, assisting other people in the lab to conduct biological experiments.
The intern positions are for currently enrolled students. The duration of the internship is 6 months, from mid June to mid December. The student will be paid $1500/month.
The lab assistant and the student interns will be conducting genetic and chemical screens using a C. elegans anxiety model to discover genes and chemicals modulating anxiety. Occasional working on weekends is required depending on the process of the experiments. Successful candidates must be able to strictly follow experimental protocols; must be highly motivated, and hard working; must have a strong sense of responsibility, good organization, observation, and communication skills.
